MLADÍ BOLESLAV

Mladá Boleslav, located in Central Bohemia, is known worldwide as the “City of Cars.” It is the headquarters of Škoda Auto and is an important industrial and historical hub in the Czech Republic, situated about 50 kilometers northeast of Prague.

Population

Mladá Boleslav has approximately 45,000 inhabitants. Because of the large automotive industry, the city has a high percentage of foreign workers. Foreigners make up about 15–20% of the population. The largest groups include Ukrainians, Slovaks, Vietnamese, and Romanians, making it a very dynamic and productive city.

Historical center and Sights

The city has a rich history dating back to the 10th century. The most famous landmark is the Mladá Boleslav Castle, which houses a regional museum. For many visitors, the main attraction is the Škoda Auto Museum, which showcases the history of car production. The Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) features a beautiful Metal Trail with interactive panels and historical architecture.

Weather in June

June is very pleasant in Mladá Boleslav. Temperatures typically range between 20–26 °C. It is mostly sunny, though occasional summer thunderstorms can occur. It is a great time for exploring both the city and the nearby Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj) nature reserve.

ŽILINA

Žilina is an important metropolis in northwestern Slovakia, located at the confluence of three rivers. It serves as a natural gateway to the mountains and is one of the most significant economic and cultural centers of the country.

Population

Žilina has approximately 81,000 inhabitants. The vast majority of the population is Slovak (approx. 95%), but there are also minorities including Czechs and a growing community of international workers and students.

Historical Center

The heart of the city is the Mariánske Square (Mariánske námestie), which is unique for its square shape and arcaded houses. The city is famous for the Church of the Holy Trinity and the nearby Budatín Castle. Near Žilina there is the world-famous spa of Rajecké Teplice (about 15 km away), which is known for the luxurious Aphrodite spa house with thermal pools in the ancient style. Žilina is also a perfect starting point for trips to the Malá Fatra National Park or the historic village of Čičmany.

Weather in May

May is an ideal time for hiking and sightseeing. Temperatures average between 20–25 °C. Because Žilina is surrounded by mountains, the weather can change quickly, so a light jacket or umbrella is recommended for evening walks or mountain trips.
